About Martyn

Martyn is a full time professional photographer and photographic trainer.
Born on the 30th August 1955 in Cambridge. Martyn studied photography at the prestigious Cambridge School of Art.
Martyn has a unique almost retro style.  He says “I think much of my style comes from early influences such and David Bailey, the late Brian Duffy and Terence Donovan. When I was 17 I saw a film called ‘Blow Up’ directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. The story of a young London fashion photographer, who photographers what he believes to be a murder. From that point I was totally hooked by the idea of being a fashion photographer, I think it was more the girls and the convertible Rolls Royce than an actually desire to be a photographer, I soon found out life as a photographer was not as glamorous as in the film, and it was not until 30 years later I actually got the convertible, sadly not the Rolls Royce it is a bright red convertible SmartCar. However I digress, it was the images of the 60′s and 70′s that had the most influence over my style, i’m still a great lover of black and white for fashion, and especially the slightly imperfect images that were created before the days of excessive retouching with Photoshop, whilst I think i’m pretty much of a wizz with Photoshop, I try very hard not to over do it. so many of today’s images are more like a CGI image than a true photograph, I have a strong feeling we are due for a change in fashion back to the pre-digital look

Martyn still has the same enthusiasm for photography he has always had, and is always looking to create the next image. Whilst much of Martyn’s current work is now teaching photography he still spends as much of his time in the studio behind the camera as he can.
